JEAN TINGUELY was born in Fribourg, Switzerland, in 1925. One of the first artists to incorporate movement in his art, some of his pieces have become major art happenings. In 1960 he built a large motorized piece, “Homage to New York”, which deliberately destroyed itself in the garden of the Museum of Modern Art. Tinguely’s work may be seen as part of the permanent collections of major museums throughout the United States and Europe.
